We have all been living in a very strange world. COVID-19 has dramatically changed the way we live our lives. Despite all of this, I have been amazed and inspired by how people are adapting and staying strong.
I have also had to adapt. I specialize in capturing moments of love between people. But how do you do this when we are forced to stay apart?
Over the past month, I took my camera through the streets of Babylon and West Islip, capturing- from a distance- portraits of families in front of their homes. Each family photographed represented a donation made to either Babylon Strong, a group supporting its namesake town, or to a need-based scholarship for a senior from West Islip High School.
These portrait sessions were a way for me to highlight and give back to two communities that have supported me and my business throughout this difficult time. It also gave me the opportunity to dive in and explore both towns. By capturing families in their homes, I saw through my lens the character of a town. I never realized how distinct the personality of a town truly is, influenced by its history, its architecture, and of course by the people who live there. Photography has again given me a way to fall back in love with the place I call home.
